| Salzburg main station is served by regional, national and international trains, including direct links from Vienna and Munich. The 'Westbahn' line from Vienna, in particular, helps to make Salzburg Hauptbahnhof one of the busiest stations in Austria. It is served by both trains of Austrian Railways (ÖBB = Österreichischen Bundesbahnen) and of German Rail (Deutsche Bahn or DB). |

Station history Salzburg first gained a station in 1860. It was the target for many air raids in 1944-45 and a number of unexploded bombs remain buried in the ground around the station, leading to problems whenever any foundation work is done. In 2003, this included the death of two explosives experts.

Underground Salzburg Hauptbahnhof is also a central hub for the city's modest underground / metro (S-Bahn) network and for Salzburg's bus and trolley bus (known as the 'O-Bus') operations (it's the no. 1 trolley bus - from outside the station - that you'll want to get to the stadium and the no. 2 to the airport). |

The O-Buses and motorised buses are run by Stadtbus Salzburg, which in turn is owned by the Lokalbahn, which runs the S1 and S11 underground / metro services.
|
Salzburg Transport Alliance The other two underground / metro lines, the S2 and S3 are run by Austrian Railways, while the track operating company for the metro / underground network is S-Bahn Salzburg. Stadtbus Salzburg, Lokalbahn and S-Bahn Salzburg are all members of the Salzburger Verkehrsbund (the SVV or Salzburg Public Transport Alliance). I trust that is all perfectly clear! |

(To search for bus times from the main station to the stadium, enter your departure point details as 'Salzburg' in the 'town' field and 'Station' as the stop. For destination enter 'Salzburg' and 'EM Stadion' (European Championship stadium). That works!
